Secretary of State office in Traverse City, Michigan.
Elderly gentleman (on oxygen, walking slow, hearing aids, the whole bit), middle aged woman (dressed nice, dripping in jewelry) with her daughter (18 or so), the lady was in line to get a number, the gentleman walked up to the counter and took a number. The lady freaks out on him! She said "SIR! THAT'S NOT HOW THIS WORKS! " Her daughter says to the mother "MOM! Its not that big of a deal!" The mother got all kinds of crabby with attitude. Then I walk up to the counter to get a number and she says to me "I was here, you have to wait in line behind me to get your number after they check your paperwork!"
First of all who in the hell spends so much time at that office to know this shit? Its not posted anywhere, there is a number machine at the counter and it says "Start here", hello captain obvious!!!!
So she gets her stuff done and goes to sit down. The conversation with her daughter is pretty animated and LOUD through the whole building about "how rude people are today" and stuff like that.
The counter people start calling numbers. The older gentleman stands up and goes to the counter (with the wrong number), the really sweet clerk takes him anyway (I smiled). This woman came unglued! "Its not his turn (it wasn't hers either for the record), there are all these people who have been waiting much longer!"
I was so embarrassed for her daughter (who was visibly mortified), the others in the office and most of all this poor gentleman using a portable oxygen tank (that lasts only about 2 hours maximum) to do his business.
What is this world comming to that our own lives are so damned important that we can't allow an older person to go in front of us just purely out of respect?! I can't believe what I saw, I wanted to slap her senseless! I wish I could have my dad back for just one day and here this woman is treating this mnn she doesn't even know like SHIT. I don't get it.
I was raised with better people I guess. I hate being a woman on days like today when bitches like that are on the loose!
I once was at Tower Records and I walked up to pay. There were two lines -- one had one person and the other had four. I got in the line with one person. Some woman turned and snapped at me, "This was just one line and we were taking turns with whichever register came open next." I felt so embarrassed, I just left the line and went to another part of the store to pay.
ReplyDeleteThats exaclty what I would have done. I don't understand some peoples attitudes about where they stand in line to do their business. I personally think it comes from the lack of feeling important in their personal lives.
ReplyDeleteIt's all apart of this It's All About Me attitude everyone seems to be sporting like the latest pair of designer shoes. I take pleasure in the fact that people like this make themselves look like assholes, usually unbeknownst to them.
